My Journey of Self-Study, Parenthood, and Moving Countries
How having clear objectives and frameworks helped me keep consistent during times of consistency and unknowns.
Welcome to #001.
Raising Two Kids, Transitioning Careers, and Moving Countries: The Challenge
Picture this: Raising two wonderful children, embarking on a career transition into the tech industry, and moving countries for seven years in total. It sounds daunting, doesn't it? Well, it certainly was, but let me assure you that with determination, effective time management, and a resilient mindset, I survived in the face of these challenges.
Making Every Minute Count
Being productive became my guiding force, my secret weapon to achieving my goals, and ultimately, my ticket into the world of technology. While juggling the responsibilities of parenthood, I realised that time was both my most precious and limited resource. I had to make every minute count and utilise it efficiently.
Self-study became my path to gaining knowledge and skills in the tech industry. After putting my little ones to bed, or dropping them at school, I delved into online courses, tutorials, and resources. I carved out dedicated time for learning, organising my schedule meticulously to ensure that my progress never faltered. It wasn't always easy, but it was worth it.
To me, being productive is about creating a deliberate, focused, and balanced approach to life.
Moving countries added an extra layer of complexity to my journey. Amidst the chaos of adjusting to a new environment, I maintained my productivity mindset, although on and off. I treated each day as an opportunity to explore, network, and absorb the cultural richness that surrounded me. Even though my mindset was not constant and I considered giving up, I kept pushing myself to overcome the obstacles and keep working toward my goals.
One key lesson resonated deeply through it all: productivity is not just about ticking off to-do lists or being busy. It's about creating a deliberate, focused, and balanced approach to life. It's about setting clear goals, breaking them down into manageable steps, and relentlessly pursuing them.
Pushing Through Challenges
Yes, it all sounds nice and beautiful, truth is it wasn’t. For countless days I was filled with fear of failure, overwhelmed by the long list of topics I needed to “master”, and sleep deprived (this quickly became an adjective that described me). However having the “mind on the price” together with picturing myself achieving my goals (and an 8 hours night's sleep), is what kept me going.
Wanted to end with these questions:
What is something that you achieved and you feel proud to share?
What is something you are struggling to accomplish?
Stay motivated, stay focused, and stay productive!
